Stonewool (Rockwool) is made from molten rock spun into cotton candy-like fibers and then compressed into cubes, for hydroponic use. It is unique by making different types of fibers. The purpose is to support the requirement of the plant in the different plant stages - capacity for absorbing nutrient solution while retaining plenty of oxygen for rapid plant growth. These cubes can also be transplanted into more traditional planters and growing mediums.
Our Rockwool does not lock out your nutrient solution. All the nutrients present in the block will be available to the plant. This means whatever nutrients you use will have an immediate effect on the plant, and any feeding mistake can be immediately corrected, allowing you to optimize your nutsol use.
Throughout your growing cycle, you can rest assured that your Rockwool substrate won’t degrade and break down over time. It will remain strong and continue to retain water properly. This is important to note because a concern is that disintegrating materials will clog up your system’s components.
How to use:
Prepare your soaking water and adjust the pH gradually to 5.5; it is critical the pH doesn’t drop below 5.0 since it will start to damage the Rockwool fibers when it is too acidic.
Submerge the Rockwool cubes in the water and allow them to soak for up to 24 hours. When they have finished soaking, remove them from the water and measure the pH levels of the water again, it must stay between 5.5 and 6.0 —  the cubes are stable and can be used.
